Poutiainen suffers severe knee injury
On Sunday, the Finnish racer will head home to undergo further examinations
Tanja Poutiainen had been really excited about competing in "her" discipline - Slalom - on Sunday. But instead of starting at the World Cup race at the Ofterschwanger Horn, she will already be headed back home. The 32-year-old crashed in the upper section of the course during the Giant Slalom on Saturday and was so badly hurt that she had to be flown by helicopter to the nearest hospital in Immenstadt.
During the first medical exam, the doctors ruled out any bone fractures. According to Christian Brüesch, national trainer of the Finnish World Cup ladies team, Poutiainen suffered a severe injury to her knee. During the Team Captain's Meeting, Brüesch was asked to give Poutiainen the best get-well wishes from FIS Chief Race Director, Atle Skardal, and his World Cup colleagues.
